Students of the Priory School like to boast that theirs is the only high school in the country whose headmaster reads both Arabic and Latin. Michael Brunner came to the abbey after 25 years of work in the hospitality industry in New York and Washington, D.C. He began his search for God as a young man in D.C. with the Josephites, a community of priests and brothers that ministers to African-American communities. There he attended Howard University, where he took a bachelor's degree. Fr. Michael's faith was sorely tried during "the turbulent social and post-Vatican II theological times," but his far-ranging spiritual journey brought him back to the Church and ultimately to Saint Louis Abbey.
